Robin, born in 1967, was placed in a foster home at the tender age of 5 months
old. By the time she was 5, she was adopted to Mr. & Mrs. Charlie Stevens of Greensboro, NC. Growing up in a Christian
home to parents who were 63 years older than she was made her life a little difficult at times, especially when she was of
a different generation. She had a rough life, being a foster child and then later adopted, she was the butt of all jokes
with the neighborhood kids and some adults. Although life seemed to deal her a bad hand at times, Robin
was determined to make it. She attended and graduated from Grimsley High School in 1985, and went on to major in accounting
at Bennett College for Women in Greensboro, NC. It was there she was told by one of her English instructors that she
had a gift for writing. She was told that her essays were very expressive and should consider pursuing
a career but Robin did not have a desire at that time. After a failed marriage at the age of 21 to her first love,
Robin decided to have a baby, thinking she would never get another change at marriage.
After a while it seems
that from failed relationships a love for writing was then born. Robin would write poems, song lyrics and monologues
to keep her mind at ease. It was when she tried marriage again that her writings became vivid.
Because of the continued abuse in her second marriage, Robin’s life hung by a thread when her last husband attempted
to “kill her with his bare hands out of anger”. This was no picnic and even though Robin could have lost
her very life behind this mistake, she began to write just to have peace of mind. It was a winter night in December
of 2000 that God spoke to Robin and told her “to read the scripture about the woman with an issue of blood and then
write a modern day play about the same”. Though confused, she did as she was instructed and in two weeks, wrote
her first stage play, “The Woman with an Issue of Blood”. It was a huge success and Robin has since written
40 plays and skits and directed and produced 10. Along with being a playwright, Robin is also a poet. She has been
nominated “Poet of the Year” by the International Society of Poets”, and her latest poem, “A New Day”,
received the Editor’s Choice Award, along with an invitation to the annual Poetry Conference held in Washington, DC.
Some of her poems have been selected for the Sound of Poetry as well. Although Robin has been proven as a poet and writer,
she is also a songwriter and three of her songs have been selected by Nashville to be produced.
In 2002,
Robin wrote a monologue called, “The Cost of Independence” at the request of Gerald Lee Ratliff, Director of Academic
Affairs at the University of Potsdam in New York and it was later selected to be discussed in their classrooms. The
book, “Young Women’s Monologs” Volume I, which is used for professional actors in their auditions, was published
in 2004 and her monologue was featured. Gerald Ratliff has contacted Robin again to write a second monologue, “Moment
of Silence” which was selected to appear in volume II. She was also asked to be a motivational speaker at the Hayes Taylor YMCA for a group called,
“Young Black Achievers” the summer of 2004. Elder and Leemaur Publishers published her essay, “Peaks
of Peace” in 2006. Robin is a spiritual woman who believes prayer is our window to God’s heart.
She is a member of Genesis Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Gregory T. Headen. She is also
working on an event, which will give college students scholarship monies to finish their education. This event, “RAW
Ambassadors Competition” is in the works to be presented soon. She has finished her life story, “Strength
in Darkness, A Woman’s Story” and has received several offers from publishers to publish her work. Robin
has also written three short feature films, “A Broken Seed”, “Keep Out”, and “Mind Seduction”
which were produced on location in Greensboro. Her film, “Keep Out” received the Best Feature Film Award
in Yanceyville, NC in 2006 at the Pinnacle Studios.
Robin has just completed production on her third film, "Mind Seduction" which premiered on Saturday,
March 17, 2007. This VIP Premiere was held at the downtown Greensboro Historical Museum in their auditorium. Many
guests filled the room including William Haley, son of the late Alex Haley and COO of Pinnacle Studios in Yanceyville, NC,
Arthur Thomas, VP of Program Development and Acquisitions, and Tony Jackson, President of Powers of 10 television. The premiere
was a huge success. "Mind Seduction" has been offered to be picked up on Colours TV. On December 7th,
it was announced by Arthur Thomas that the film would air on December 20th and December 21st. "Mind Seduction"
would make its debut in 50 states and in over 13 million households. The film is now a nationally known production.
Robin has finished producing her 10th stage production, "A Test of Faith" which was held at the High Point Theatre.
A ministry by the name of Virtuous Woman Prayer Ministry has contacted Robin about writing a play
for their 20th anniversary celebration. The play, “Yesterday, Today and Forever”
promises to pull women back to each other by connecting them through prayer and making them realize that each of them have
a ministry within them. Robin has also been asked to be the Keynote Speaker for one of WFMY News 2 reporters,
Tracey McCain. There have been several ministries that have contacted Robin to partner with them by writing
plays. The PDC Campsite of Reidsville, NC, and St. Matthews AME Church in Burlington have now sponsored
two performances each bringing in RAW Ministries. Next for the playwright is to plan and develop conferences
where actors from around the world can come to receive training and valuable information to help further their career.
